Photography Gift Registry

March 29th, 2011

If you’re like a lot of folks these days, you probably already have a toaster, and don’t plan on setting the Thanksgiving table with a complete set of formal china any time soon. But I have to admit, touring Bed Bath & Beyond with the power of a cordless scanner in hand zapping all my favorite products makes me want to get married all over again!

Perhaps you’re looking for something a little more personal and unique? Gifts you will treasure for a lifetime and pass along to future generations? Consider this: create your personal photography gift registry with us. It’s free, easy, and it’s the gift that keeps on giving.

And for a limited time, we’d like to give you a little gift of our own. For every dollar contributed to your registry, we’ll add 10% more free! Use your gift money toward any products or services we offer. If you really have your heart set on a beautiful coffee table album, but can’t squeeze it in the budget, this is your chance. Or maybe you’d love a gallery wrap canvas to adorn your living room wall.

It couldn’t be any easier to get started. Just click the link above and create your registry online in less than a minute. Then, you’ll have a personalized link to post on your personal wedding web site to subtly let guests know you’d really love the gift of photography for  your wedding. Every time a contribution is made, you’ll receive an email notification.

Do It Yourself Wedding Albums and More

February 24th, 2011

We just returned from the Wedding & Portrait Photographers convention in Las Vegas with a fabulous new find!

So many couples today are receiving a CD of image files from their wedding or family photographer with the hopes of saving money by ordering their own prints, cards, and albums. The reality is that even with the best intentions, folks get busy and just can’t find the time to get it done, or even a good place to order from with decent quality products.

And while we always recommend ordering professional products through your photographer, as they will be the best quality available, if you insist on doing it yourself, Pinhole Press will be your best bet! We have seen all the consumer grade items you can buy from Costco, Walgreen’s, Walmart, Snapfish, etc., and frankly they are rubbish. It’s a down right shame to invest good money in professional photography, and then use the poorest quality labs and printers to show off your beautiful art work!

Pinhole Press is a new company offering near-professional albums, guest books, thank you cards, and a wide variety of cool products, designed for the do-it-yourselfer. Using your CD of images, you can populate their pre-designed templates and order your own products. The prices are unbelievable for the quality you receive, and of course they have a satisfaction guarantee.

Procrastinate no longer! You now have a simple, affordable solution for getting that wedding album.

Engagement Photos – What to Wear?

After the wedding package has been booked, and engagement session scheduled, one of the questions we get most is: “what should we wear for our engagement portraits?”

Surprisingly, the question would be better addressed by talking about what not to wear. Engagement photos are meant to be fun and spontaneous, so on the ‘casual to formal’ scale of 1-10, where 1 is pajamas and 10 is a tux, we’d say aim for about 5-6!

Your personalities and style will greatly influence your choice of clothing, such as shabby-chic or fashion-forward, but whatever the style may be, keep it simple! It’s important to realize that when you reduce your view of the world to the narrow frame of a camera, and tune out all the clutter and distractions going on around you,  something you had probably never noticed before can  suddenly become the center of attention in a photograph. Not the least of which is your clothing.

The best rule of thumb we can give you is to avoid clothing with prints, patterns or stripes. Solid colors are always the best bet. When it comes to matching each other or not, you have a little more freedom. Probably the most popular choice among couples is to wear black tops and blue jeans. This is a very flattering combination for portraits, and brings the focus of attention to the faces, not the Charlie Brown zig zag on your chest!

So that’s it in a nutshell. When in doubt, just ask, we’re always happy to help!

Mesa, Arizona Wedding

January 6th, 2011

Jennifer and Todd’s wedding took place at the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple just before Christmas. After a few photos on the temple grounds the party headed over to Stonebridge Manor for the rest of their portraits and reception. Jennifer looked stunning in her vintage birdcage veil, which she added for a few special portraits.

Wedding Cake Styles and Trends

October 27th, 2010

Over the years, we have amassed quite a large collection of wedding cake images, including the good, the bad, and the ugly. The latter you will have to conjure up in your imagination, since after all, who are we to judge? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!

Nonetheless, we thought it would be fun to troll the archives for these tasty images and hopefully give you some ideas and inspiration for your dream cake. We’ve posted a half dozen of our favorites here, but you can find lots more in an album on our facebook page. Please visit the facebook album often as we will continually be adding more cake photos. Caution: you may need a napkin to dab the drool!

Reception Table Numbers – A Fun Idea

July 15th, 2010

Morgann and Max had a great idea to make fun and personalized numbers for each of the dinner tables at their wedding reception. Morgann made the cards with numbers herself on her computer and brought them to their engagement session. She is planning to have prints made to display on the tables.
